I find it impossible to consider anyone working to a set of rules in wars where there are no rules. The day after the Japanese surrender, a group of Japanese soldiers attacked the officers lines of the RAF squadron my father was in (Burma). No one was killed but there were injuries. A Ghurka squad was sent out after those Japanese soldiers - no prisoners were bought back to the airfield (but Japan had surrendered the day before).

Remember those Vietcong who fought against Australian soldiers (not in uniform and not to determined rules of engagement)?
My Mother in Laws Cambodian neighbour suggested that we should be surprised as to how many determined (some years after that side they had fought for), were, later, not to their liking, and ended up on Australian shores as "refugees.

Sorry, we ask of our serving personnel, to be civil when those they come up against, are not. In war "shit happens", leave it and move on.
