Government conducting a further round of Defence disposals https://www.defence.gov.au/about/locati ... ure-estateOf interest to those on this site (possibly): The naval historical collection (including the Nirimba display) formerly held at Spectacle Island) was relocated to the Banksmeadow facility. Its disposal means that the naval collection will be relocated again, possibly to Randwick Barracks. RAAF Williams was slated for closure at the same time as HMAS Nirimba. The Labor Defence Minister (Robert Ray), at the time making the statement that closing Nirimba was no different to the closure of RAAF Williams in Victoria. See, only took a delay of 30 years......

Why would they sell HMAS Penguin base,
Dont they use the hospital and diving school there anymore
Typical Labour, sell and burn all Defence facilities

Typical Labour, sell and burn all Defence facilities If you check out the link the rebuilt recompression chamber building/underwater medicine building, wharf and diving school are not touched. The image offered on the site suggests all the land down to the former Countersunk location and the hospital site. On the Cerberus image it is the golf course and what appears to be a lot of the wetlands area.

Thought this article might be relevant to your readership. https://navalinstitute.com.au/hmas-leeu ... e-to-home/This piece is my personal response to the Defence Estate Review released earlier this week. Using the Fremantle Port Division, Leeuwin and Acute as a shared Reserve experience, and I seek to reflects on what’s been lost as service moved away from local, visible pathways. It’s about connection and contribution and likely a little bit of nostalgia. For your consideration. Yours Aye, Commander Paul Pelczar OAM RAN

Its not the whole of HMAS Penguin that will be sold, I believe that there are two blocks that will be sold off, the first is opposite the main gate around the old Captain Quarters (now a cafe) a block that was never included in Sydney Harbour National park, the other is the south Western section (mainly Bushland) down to the Balmoral Oval, a block that Mosman Council has been trying to obtain for years.
