My theory is that they are confused by the level of dependence on electronic aids and the computer systems on board. Whereas previously everything was manual control with limited remote operation, now they have to contend with computers with a dozen active screens to operate engines/equipment/valves/etc, and they just don't cope with it very well.

The most recent boat to run aground (Takuare) is now off the reef (after another vessel tried to just drag it off and caused more problems), and is now sitting by the seaside on a sandy bottom.
Same as the other one that grounded months & months
