So then, the following Members and Friends have indicated that they'll be attending this year's 2015 Annual RAN Skilled Hands Sydney Rocks Xmas Pub Crawl Smokey listed below in the order in which they declared themselves as starters...
Rick Pengilly Peter Weyling Chris O’Keefe Viv MacLeod Steve Shepherd Howie Henderson Barry Davis Mike Moore John Kelly Ellen Kelly Fred (GDY)Russell Anne Russell Gordon Robertson Sandy Robertson Brian Mackenzie Verna Mackenzie Neil Watson Peter Ferris Trevor Davies Dave Warren Brian Staples
Sadly, Mick Thompsonwon't be joining us...
And reporting back from the 18th/ 19th MOBI Intake 50th Reunion in Tweed Heads, Seejay mentioned that Alan Bock may be gracing us with his presence... If so, that would make it a healthy 22 so far...
So if you're still sitting on the fence, get off yer bum and add your name to the list to join us...
I mean, let's face it, if you try REAL hard, you could arguably think of a worse way to spend a glorious sunny Saturday than sharing a quiet convivial (or two) with 22-plus like minded Mates in the ultimate historical entertainment precinct in the whole wide world...
Of course, without Tafmo, a.k.a.... ...it won't be quite the same..!
....................
I would hazard a guess that about 4 on that list won't make it!!!!!!

Col Kelson isn't on your list Rick and I did note that he has his accommodation booked. Do we know is he bringing the "super sarge" with him? That will boost up the numbers, and the culture.

Actually, Pony, there was a later update than the one you've quoted, one where I'd added Pussasan to the list...

And today's morning programs are pointing out the impending chaos in the city with the relocation of the bus routes away from George Street (although it does seem to be flowing smoothly so far).
Likewise, part of George Street will shortly be traffic-free apparently, although they haven't said which bit.
Might be wise to plan your arrival at Jacksons on George beforehand with the above in mind.

A good point, Seejay, although it shouldn't affect those coming in by train from the North, or from the West, as they can get off either at Circular Quay, or Wynyard Station, then it's a leisurely five minute stroll to meet up for our 10:00AM breakfast at 'Jackson's on George'...
It won't worry Phred, Anne and I, we'll cab it into 'The Frisco' on Friday, ferry it into Circular Quay on Saturday, then bus/ taxi it home Saturday night... Those staying in The Mariners using public transport will have to recheck bus schedules, or simply rely on a taxi or two... Ahh! I was just going by the list PW had but up in his previous post, but your are spot on, but he needs to get it together on the "super sarge" attending, the more the merrier.

One "l" Stroppy One!!! I recall you telling me that "attention to detail" was important in Chippies work.
Do you guys actually know what a "monkeysfist" is????
As far as "staircases" go ............ be prepared, this silly old Boilermaker Ossifer might be better prepared than you think!! If "it" goes bad or wrong for you, don't complain or moan...... or expect me to show sympathy!!!!!!!!!!.........on to the next pub!!!!!!
"Monkeys Fist"? I do actually. On the end of our throwing lines (Dockyard). One would expect that they were also on the end of the throwing lines onboard naval platforms. Have never made one, though - riggers job
I stand corrected on my spelling

Drifting again, but it would appear that Brian used the word 'onboard' correctly, he didn't say 'on' and certainly not 'inboard'...

Also off topic, but a nice story anyway:
Last year we lost Lenny Foxcroft from the Wooden Boat Club in Cairns. Lenny actually served before the mast after doing his apprenticeship in Dogtown as a rigger/general hand/seaman and a few more jobs. He served in the merchant navy during WW2 and was in quite a few Atlantic convoys. He also spent time as a Master running lighthouse supply ships up & down the Qld coast. Lenny was 90 when he passed, was a favourite with the ladies, and used to run ropework classes at our clubhouse.
A man that could never sit and do nothing, Lenny loved to make monkey's fists keyrings, using glass marbles as the centre piece. Those keyrings are still to be found far and wide around the state, and I have several myself. I'll post a pic tomorrow if I remember.
He used to make little rope dogs for the kids as well. Sad that such history is gone....
