Tony Vine advises: With great sadness I advise the passing of yet another MOBI, LCDR Chris Luscombe RAN(Rtd). Chris joined as a JR, before becoming a member of the 31st intake of Naval Apprentices at NIRIMBA in July 1971, (2nd last intake of MOBIs). Chris was a renowned AFL player representing NIRIMBA and Navy as well as playing club football in Sydney. He was commissioned in 1986, and after his SD Course he completed an Engineering Degree at Chisholm College in Melbourne. He served as the cargo officer on HMAS SUCCESS during the first Gulf War. He was diagnosed with a very aggressive cancer a couple of months ago, and he passed away early in the morning of Thursday 4 December. He is survived by his wife Margie and their children. I am sorry to be the bearer of such sad news. Regards Tony Vine |

FFS! Knew Chris very well (same intake as my brother) and played footy with him. A real nice guy. Vale Chris. |

Sad news!! Chris was a great guy! Talented and highly motivated professionally in addition to his sporting abilities and achiements in Aussie Rules. Another who successfully completed post SD training at Chisholm Institute of Technology (now part of Monash Uni), but sadly taken far too soon. Vale Chris, RIP your watch is done, fair winds and following seas. Condolences to your family and friends. |

Shocked to hear this. Whilst 18 months ahead of me at NIRIMBA, I knocked around with his intake a lot. We often went to the Scully's (Marg's parents) place for R & R when Chris (known as 'George" by some) was courting her. When I last caught up with Chris he was President of the Balmain Aussie Rules Club (where I think he played whilst at NIRIMBA and beyond) and was flying up the ranks in Mirvac. A true champion. |
